To be eligible for SSDI, an applicant must meet the following conditions:

• You are unable to engage in substantial gainful activity (SGA) ie., your disability limits your ability to work. You are not able to do the work that you did before and will not be able to do other kinds of work due to the disability.
• Have a disability that has lasted or is expected to last for at least one year or to result in death and you are under the age of 65.
• You must have worked for a certain period (i.e. long enough and recently enough) and paid social security (FICA) tax during that period.
